This is incredibly heartbreaking to read..

My family has someone with mental health issues, but I'm glad the police in our city understand how to handle these situations without resorting to shooting. Albeit, most of the time, it's difficult to get mental health patients the help they need because the police can't do anything due to the requirement they must follow. I think the problem with police and the crisis team is not understanding that these people are ill. Your 2 minute assessment WILL not help at all. 2 minutes, and they would think the patient is fine in that very moment even if there's countless calls to the police when this patient needs help! Immediate family members understand these patients more than a police or a crisis team ever will. So why can't they listen to the family? Because of American amendments. It's fucken frustrating.

We don't want to see them shooting anyone, or some stranger or police hurting them... American laws are hurting people with mental health issues, specifically those who can not tell from reality or delusions.
