I think that Jeff Booth sums this up very well. I may not be as binary on my views as he but I do agree with one statment he makes all the time.
It is impossible to see all solutions to a problem from within the paradigm of that problem.
i.e. it is impossible to see both: how toxic and dangerous our global financial system has become; nor how it can be saved/fixed/reformed from within it.
One has to make a leap of cognitive courage to first acknowledge the extent to which we exist within the current global fiat financial system, and secondly how that limitation is preventing you from seeing solutions that come from outside it.
Its not easy! economically the financial system is like air and water is to us biologically. We have trouble thinking about life outside these things. But unlike benign and physical things like air and water, our financial system is wholly a human construct. It was conceived using both the awesome human imaginative intellect and with all of our human frailties like greed and fear.
What we see in Bitcoin is an amazing immaculate conception of a protocol (a set of rules embedded in and expressed as a specific form of computer communication) which removes to as great an extent as possible the human frailties like greed and fear permanently from the operations of money.
How do we know it was an immaculate conception? We don't. But we do know that we can see the hard rules of the protocol and examine them (network software is always subservient to the protocol). 15y of examination, and study, and debate, and attack have not managed to undermine the operation of Bitcoin, nor expose any fatal flaws in its protocol.
I cannot say that a flaw may not appear - neither can I say that Bitcoin will still be running as we know it today in 10-20y. But can we say this of anything?
I see it as a comparative argument. How likely is it to survive in its current state is it vs debt based fiat money?
