You're assuming they won't develop emotions. You know we don't program AI, it's largely an emergent black box, right?

Our current LLMs don't, probably, because they don't emulate the brain, just mimic the output of the language centre. But there's no reason we can't make one that is intended to emulate an animal brain and if it did I don't see any reason it wouldn't have emotions emerge.
