Ethereum has the same governance as Bitcoin (validator majority rules), with similar, indeed arguably superiour decentralisation (see validator distribution stats).

The SEC won't stop at Ethereum as everything the government does is political and not fundamentally based on any sort of due process beyond what is deployed as post-hoc rationalisation.

However, Ethereum is the gold standard in terms of decentralisation and economic sustainability. Every layer of the Ethereum stack is decentralised: the validator set is enormous and well distributed, the research and development is open source, there are many clients with their own development and maintenence communities, there is an entire ecosystem of execution layers, etc. The only other blockchain that comes close to this level of full stack decentralisation is Bitcoin.

Ethereum and L2s such as Arbitrum are the only net profitable blockchains in the industry, ensuring validation is funded into perpetuity. Additionally, Ethereum has a stable supply, which, alongside the above, makes it technically the best store of value asset the world has ever seen bar none.

Proof of stake as per Ethereum design is simply a more efficient alternative to proof of work. Proof of stake means different things for different protocols, but on Ethereum the penalty for validator misbehaviour under Proof of Stake is actually more harsh than under proof of work. This means that under Proof of Stake Ethereum is now even more difficult and expensive to attack.
