I'll speculate. Now that the US government is taking their foot off our necks by not denying the ETH ETF and attempting to declare all alts illegal securities with a broad stroke we're just now opening the gates to alts.

Up until now, I would guess most money coming into alts has been from crypto natives getting ahead of the narratives and gaining exposure to the most promising projects. This is probably why meme coins have performed much better than fundamentals. Anything not a meme was at huge risk of being declared illegal by the US. That threat just changed.
