The US is not a part of the ICC and has long been critical of its process. The ICC operates very differently than other international organizations, and they have constantly been dealing with legitimately problems because of this. It is not an organ of the UN, which is unusual for these kind of large international organizations. It's rules apply to states which are not party to the treaty, which violates many of the standards of intentional law and diplomacy. Many of the largest and most powerful countries in the world are not a part of the ICC (US, India, China, Russia).

Over the last few years their legitimately has been questioned even more. First it was the way it conducted investigations, with almost all of them being in Africa. Then it was the indictment of the leaders of counties, which many argued violate the standards of sovereignty. Then it was the acceptance of Palestine, a non sovereign entity without defined territory. After that it was the warrant for Putin, even though neither Russia or Ukraine were signatories. Most recently it is the Israel and Hamas charges, which is culmination of multiple of the criticisms, the application to non signatories, the admittance of Palestine who generally not treated as a state in international law, and application to the Gaza strip which was never in the control of the PA who signed the treaty.
