>people are not just atoms. isnt this also an assumption on your part?
clearly not. and this the heart of the confusion we are having here. the difference between me and your washing machine is not atomic. something else beyond atomic structure is going on in you and me. though admittedly ask indigenous people and they will tell you even the rocks are alive. We arent exactly talking about the same thing. the fact no scientist has yet been able to define anything about consciousness doesnt entitle you or others to start attributing it to machines. conscious self awareness is required for "understanding" neither rocks or machines "understand" things. AI is code. code produces results. it does not "understand" things.
have you read \[The bitter lesson\](https://www.cs.utexas.edu/\~eunsol/courses/data/bitter\_lesson.pdf) text? It kind of deals with this same mistake; when developing AI people always try to apply humanness to solutions, but then they fail to progress. all AI ever needs is more computational power. That is it: computational power. Not "understanding" or "self-awareness" because that is the trait of living beings.
and it is a huge mistake to be making as AI becomes ever more powerful and adept at everything many humans are going to mistake it for a god. but it isnt because it is concsious or understands anything or everything, it is simply the impact of computational power at scale.
the dangers facing humans that make that mistake is one of immense delusion. that is why I keep banging on about it. not ust for you, but in case anyone futuristically reads this far wondering the same thing.
you cannot have non-sentient understanding. only sentient beings "understand" things. you also contradict yourself by claiming somehow atoms lead to sentient beings. where did you get that idea from?
you keep repeating this stuff, so I will keep correcting you until the point sinks in. if it does, then it will have been a wonderful use of my time, yes. I wasnt doing anytthing else useful coz AI took my career.
