As a counter anecdote, I've liquidated any of my own company's stock literally the second it entered my hands and have spent my career investing exclusively in total market index funds and am also a millionaire. I've even been with the same company my whole career, but you could not convince me to buy their stock (though I of course take advantage of any discounted purchase plans...I just sell it immediately after the discount is applied).
