To expand a little more. I think we’re fully in generation 1 of AI. We won’t see another winter like we have in the past, the economic viability has hit its saturation point to keep things sustained and even if hardware development stopped tomorrow we have a LOT to play with for decades to come.
Generation 2 will need another software leap forward comparable to the breakthroughs that led to ChatGPT. My money is that will be AI generated by AI or evolutionary architectures, probably with some embodied intelligence aspect - meaning each “AI” will be intelligent and adapted to the domain it exists in. The next hardware leap will be native neural network architectures or some other hyper specialized architecture specific to what the software converges to.
