I've spoken with VCs in the past they've explained the 3 main skills a CEO needs to have for them to feel comfortable to invest.

1) the ability to sell their product's story 2) the ability to recruit and retain talent 3) the ability to raise imvestor money for a project in development

The irony is that all these traits are also the specific skillset of a cult leader. While we hope that most corporate leaders are visionaries surrounded by capable people with realistic goals, the VC's selection criteria happily invests in religious fanaticism thanks to the guilible and loyal workforce, customers, and retail investors.
