Adoption has been incredibly slow and there’s some reports suggesting the ecosystem isn’t really growing at all.

As you point out bitcoin is just a public leisure (a very inefficient and uneditable ledger) unfortunately that’s something the majority of people have absolutely zero use for. To date bitcoin has not shown any utility outside of niche overseas transfers (many of which may actually be illegal or attempting to dodge international sanctions) this has been the driver behind its incredibly slow adoption rate, nobody has a use for it outside of a speculative investment and even that’s slowing down as people get wise to the risks.
