A friend did a little experiment. Him and his wife kept talking repeatedly about buying cat food. "Oh honey don't forget cat food!" "Babe can you get cat food while you're out?" I do not remember the time frame but want to say they did this for a couple weeks or months. No web searches for cat food or cat anything because it was a ruse and they don't even have a cat. Sure enough cat product ads start showing up on Fakebook and elsewhere. And this was several years ago.
I don't think there's people listening to all of this and sorting it out for advertisers, but is it really crazy to think there isn't voice recognition software built into the more intrusive apps that then target you with ads? This doesn't even seem like it would be a difficult thing to do with today's tech.
