This person just argued with me below, so I'm going to write, as an Israeli, the obvious that I think everyone is missing:

*"Minister of Defense is a political position within the Knesset, aka the Israeli Parliament. It's like House Committees in the USA. Gallant is just a member of parliament when it boils down to duties; he was the Minister of Construction prior to this. It's not what the West thinks it is.*

*He's not Herzi HaLevi, who is the Chief of Staff of the IDF and the equivalent of the Commander in Chief that Western countries have. They hit the wrong guy if they are going for you are claiming.*

*You did, however, excellently illustrate exactly what I'm talking about in regards to people not understanding how the Israeli government works."*
