In recent history I pressured IT to get an intern the largest monitor they would allow, even larger than mine, because it would make his work easier. Allowed the same intern to leave early on several occasions, paid for entire day. Had a college student studying for a totally unrelated field working the front desk for easy college money. Made people leave him alone as much as possible the week before his final exams so he could study on the clock. Then had to explain that I am not going to let busy work that can wait a a few weeks get in the way of someone doing well in college, even though knowing it would result in said person leaving the company. I allow people that don't work for me to vent and offer the feedback to their management in a way that they can't determine who was complaining. This way they can go after the problem, not the person. Want to play on your phone at work. Fine, just don't let it mess up your work. Tired of the task, go for a walk or go BS with someone. I defended someone for consistently going home early because her tasks were done and no one needing anything. Upper management wanted to make her part time because other people were whining. Told them we should punish someone for being proficient and that she is salary so she is paid to do X tasks, regardless if it takes her 5 hours per day or 10. This woman is the largest threat to my own position because we do related work.

But hey, I'm terrible to be around because I tossed an application of someone that was too lazy to even bother saying the entire word at a time when the entire word was actually said. It actually confused the person she requested it from (the person was not dumb). That was not the sole reason. Besides, the clientele we had would not have responded well her style of communication nor attitude.
