This is totally what happened to me. I can still buy stuff, but buying stocks really helped scratch that itch too. It was like buying a thing, but I still keep the money.

I also consider how much I could invest whenever I make a purchase as well. That being said, once I saved up more money in my brokerage account and IRA, I felt less bad about spending a few hundred dollars because it becomes a smaller percentage of your net worth.

I think when you're below $20-30k, $500 will feel like a lot, and it is! But I'm up to $60k in my brokerage and $20 in my IRA, so now $500, although expensive still, doesn't feel so bad if it's only once or twice a year.

The one thing I really want to get is a good Sax. They are like ~$2k - 3.5k. I have been holding off on this purchase for years. Eventually, I'll get to the point where I have the money. 🙂
