For the same reason anyone manufacturing a knock off with the purpose of cashing in on its similarity to the original without paying the designer is deemed to be committing a crime.

I see where you're coming from and there's definitely a wider discussion to be had about whether copyright law etc the way they are today actually serves the public good. But its very clear here that after being told they couldn't have Johansson they said fine we'll make Yohansson. It doesn't really matter that you can tell the difference the same way a Gucki bag from Turkey is still a Gucci knockoff.
