Adding just about anything to VTIVX actually decreases your diversification, not increases it. That's because internally, VTIVX is already a fully diversified portfolio in one fund.
Edit: Diversification comes from what the funds hold, not the number of funds. You can have a fully diversified portfolio with one fund, such as here, or a poorly diversified portfolio with 8 funds (that may all overlap significantly or even in some cases be the same thing: I've seen at least one instance of someone using both VOO and SPY).
