Counterpoint: the stock market isn’t the economy- trump was able to juice the market temporarily by leveraging the bully pulpit to keep borrowing rates at zero against our descendants’ promise to pay for it, and by borrowing $8T to hand out to fake business owners (PPP) and targeted tax credits (racehorse owners, Elon musk, etc). The market did great though (although inflation got up to around 8% when trump’s giveaways hit Main Street) even though the trump economy was disastrous to most people. By contrast, Biden’s economy is great because with the grownups in charge we have been able to reduce deficit spending, keep rates high enough to push inflation below historical norms, and stabilize trade with the rest of the world. The stock market benefit is a side effect of that stability.
