Yes, but it's not all or nothing. I have a minimum amount I invest in retirement and taxable accounts every paycheck no matter what. On autoinvest biweekly so its not even a thought. Paying myself first is the priority. I made sure the amount i autoinvest wont leave me with nothing after bills are paid. Anything left over is for me to spend on whatever or maybe throw in the savings account if what I want is particularly expensive. If there's nothing I really want or need, I just invest that too. At some point you still need to live TODAY and not wait for retirement 30 years for now.
That said, taking saving and investing seriously has definitely changed my habits and my wants. I look at money as hours of my life spent working for the most part. (How many hours of work does this item cost and is it worth it?) I no long spend every dollar I get. I "want" less and less things I don't really need. It's just made me more aware overall of how my money is spent.
