People pretend to care about this kinda shit a lot in conversation but in their actions show they truly don’t prioritize anonymity and privacy as much as they claim to
We’ve known for what, a decade or more now?, that the US government was monitoring text email and phone calls of US citizens without proper legal warrants in the name of fighting the war on terror. That social media sites were allowing access to their networks and data to US government for clandestine activities. The Snowden leaks.
Did that cause you to stop using email and text? Nope. People didn’t even stop using social media, which would be far easier to give up.
Did it make you organize a vote to shut that shit down? Nope.
Nobody really cares all that much to do anything about it. Then you have TikTok. We basically know the Chinese government uses apps like TikTok to collect data from US citizens. Does that stop millions of Americans from using TikTok? Nope.
And our own domestic companies do the same shit and have for quite some time. This is well known and so accepted that if you bring up the china tiktok shit probably an American will shrug and say oh well my own country does that to me too.
So nobody really cares all that much. They say they do, but they sure as shit don’t act like they do.
