I think the biggest factor is that our mortgages have remained stable whereas rent has increased disproportionately.
I got our primary home refinanced for 1.875%. It’s basically interest free at this point. So my mortgage payment is all going to the principal and taxes and escrow.
So this lets people like me model out cash flow knowing that one of our biggest expenses isn’t going to vary wildly.
In the /r/Boston subreddit so many posts are about their landlords raising rents by 20-50%. That’s just insane and unbelievably stressful.
I have a multi family in Boston with a 3 car garage and backyard and front yard in a really nice neighborhood — my total mortgage is lower than what a condo a third of our space gets rented out for. It’s absurd.
