Same question back to you, but replace crypto for cash. Crypto is a neutral tool, just as cash can be used to buy flowers or bombs, or end-to-end encryption can either be used for you to send a private flirty/naughty text to a significant other, or by terrorists and pedophiles for absolutely abhorrent purposes.

Now we/society can certainly take the approach of undermining or outlawing these tools in an attempt to quell the bad actors' ability to act, however with it we destroy what many - including myself - believe to be fundamental rights, such as privacy.

Additionally we cannot forget that the above approach is about you and me and other normal people. You can bet your sweet ass that governments will still be E2E encrypting the fuck out of their shit, they just don't want normal people to have access to these tools, or at the very least they want a backdoor. I use this example because it's a real-life one currently being discussed in the EU (back-dooring all E2E encryption to save the children).

I'm all for capturing terrorists, pedophiles, and other criminals harming innocents. I do not believe however that the rights of 99.9% of the world's population should be thrown aside for 0.1% of bad actors. This is my opinion/belief, I understand others may hold different positions.

Before bitcoin Szabo, Back, Finney - they were already working on digital cash technologies. Before that we had actual cash, gold and other precious metals...hell even alcohol has been used as a store of value in illicit criminal economies. Crypto makes the transfer of value more convenient, but if you remove crypto you won't stop those transactions from happening, and typically they will happen more violently as they involve physical assets and people meeting in person.
