It's always dependent on two things: who is being bribed and who is doing the bribing. Everything is a calculated and transactional measure.

For instance, if this was a story about Chuck Schumer accepting political bribes from Israel instead of Bob Menendez accepting bribes from Egypt, we would have a completely different response. We know this because this actually happens. We have a US ally that overtly interferes in US domestic politics/policy decisions and elections at the federal as well as state level, yet we do not treat the interference in the same way we treat Russian or Chinese interference. If the act itself is unacceptable, then why isn't it condemned across the board?

This is not a statement to justify the behavior by these politicians, left or right, but specifically singling-out one political party for its behavior is disingenuous when both parties do this. u/DeRpY_CUCUMBER is 100% on point with their comment.

Morality is the packaging to sell political decisions/response to the public; it is rarely, if ever, the guiding reason.
