I was at a children’s hospital and it was the day after my daughter received a kidney transplant that the family of a young boy was there as their son had just passed and was donating his organs. As it turns out the paediatric kidney failure community is small and I know the toddler and family who received the deceased boys kidney. Organ donation is the gift of life. Individuals who receive the organs are most likely living a death sentence without transplant. As a recipient family of an organ for my baby it is impossible to describe the magnitude of this gift because it doesn’t just save lives but it allows very sick people to live a life full of colour and hope.
