What do you expect, history constantly rhymes. Morons got rid of LBJ in 1968, who did more for poverty and civil rights than just about any president since Lincoln (ok ok, FDR might have done more on the poverty front) because of Vietnam.

And who did they get instead? Nixon. And the war raged on until 1975. Maybe you had a chance with LBJ, but there was zero chance with Tricky Dick.

The problem is you have this huge swath of the population who isn't politically astute, but gets very obsessed with a single issue overnight. Then they cut off their nose to spite their face.
