Right, but what I should have specified is that it's about $36,000 disposable (sorry about that) after taxes, utilities, health insurance, rent, etc. Unlike a boat, this fun toy doesn't depreciate the second you buy it, because recreational properties have been a major part of the general real estate market there for the better part of a century from what I can tell.
So my question is whether anyone would consider this a diversification of assets by trading securities for value in a physical object. It would affect my net contribution to my stock and bond portfolio because I would have to sell off some shares to either buy it or to finance it. So it sounds like your answer to that would be "no", then. Maybe it's nevertheless just a "fun toy" with better chances of appreciation...
