UE is like CPI. Since we don't want to know the numbers or for other people to, we don't measure them. UE is low because those that were looking got hired. Low participation means people have dropped out.
Boomers retired en masse, first when COVID hit and again when stocks went to the moon. The same thing happened in the tech bubble. That caused a big dip in the participation rate and suddenly workers were needed everywhere. Companies complained about higher wages while enjoying record profits and getting free PPP money most of them didn't need. The owners kept most of it for themselves.
Government has also been steadily hiring since the pandemic. Maybe the most jobs of any employer?
Child care costs exploded with other prices and more family members could be staying at home instead of working or looking for work.
These are the largest contributors I'm aware of for the low UE and participation rates.
