I'm glad I wasn't doing a full on journalism course. I attended a few different lectures that were mainly for the journalism students but were worth going to for regular writers. For example one was about the rules for writing about suicide in the media and how to be tactful in a way that doesn't encourage copycat suicides. ([It's an interesting topic](https://mindframe.org.au/suicide/communicating-about-suicide)).

But every lecture they would lead with this maudlin diatribe about how journalism is dying, print media is disappearing, how none of the students will find jobs and just how much of a dumpster fire these kids' chosen profession was. It was depressing. Essentially the attitude was the best you can hope for is writing clickbait for a Buzzfeed knock-off.
