I’ll put it this way — They reached out to her and specifically stated that they wanted to capitalize on her body of work (“Her”). When she declined, they sought out a VA expressly to mimic (naturally or not) Scarlett Johansson’s voice, one could assume still under the intention of paying homage to “Her”.

It’s not slimy because they hired someone who sounded like her, it’s slimy because they still went through with their original intentions while skating legal boundaries.

What bugs me is, why ask a second time for permission just before release if they had an original VA and not a fully emulated voice?
