Couple things

I did not expect Scarlett Johansson’s voice when Sama tweeted “her”. I did expect something like the product in “her” because it has been baked into the ai culture that everything changes once we get that real time audio/video/text ai that you can easily converse with. I know it’s baked in because (*cites the thousands of journalists and commenters making ‘her’ references in every article and thread on ai for the past 2 years). Now I didn’t expect SJ’s voice before the event - and I don’t know if these people just didn’t listen to Sky or if they’re just being dishonest - but I didn’t mistake Sky’s voice for SJ’s during the event either. That said let’s take the ‘similarity’ or ‘imitation’ stance for a real quick ride.

Clearly SJ has a voice people want for their AI. Just like people want David Attenborough as a voice for all future nature doc’s, sometimes things go well together. SJ’s voice tickles a part of the brain that makes it good for ai assistants. I think so, sama thinks so, at least one casting director thought so, and I’m pretty sure many others think so too. People, including myself, like Sky for the same reason. It’s my favorite voice but my point (hypothesis?) is that even if SJ never did the voice of ‘her’ or even never became famous, we still would have landed on Sky because it’s a great voice for ai assistants.

tldr; (Sama)ntha ignores the butterfly effect.
