Well thought out point. I don’t like the resources argument though because thats ultimately why we were in Iraq and Afghanistan. We lost a lot of people in those wars. We spent trillions. Prices still went up, we never saw a measurable benefit from those wars.

Maybe it helps build good faith with other nations seeing the US try and stop extremists in Africa, but the US is largely seen as an occupier, not a savior.

Morally correct is another subjective measure. Very complicated when you consider what the local populace wants vs what the west sees as the right thing to do. I agree those groups are horrific, but are we going to be there for every Muslim nation that has to battle against extremist factions? No. That’s not our role. We shouldnt pay that price with American lives or American tax payer money
