I think there are two major factors when investing:
1. How uncertain is the product in the long and short term 2. How uncertain are you and your actions.
Most people assume that everyone is a short term trader and so they don't bother to tell you to invest long term. In the short term, Bitcoin is uncertain, but in the long term, Bitcoin is much less uncertain than everything else, and the only thing that is more certain is that the dollar, or whatever your local currency is, will debase more and more and Bitcoin will remain at a fixed supply.
I get that if you are looking to make dollars, Bitcoin is probably not a great solution, but if you are truly trying to preserve your savings and maybe even give yourself a little boost, it seems selfish not to push the needle forward in their mind by bringing Bitcoin up.
