I don't know much but I'm guessing. If you know how IVs will change ahead of time, you can make a lot of money. For example I bet few people predicted chat gpt4o to be announced between the last comment and now.

Are you asking because you don't want to sell an option to early before IV gets super juicy?

From what I understand the closer to expiration you are also fighting theta decay so it's hard to say what will win out. It also depends on your strike. My 1005 stike on NVDA from like a month ago I'm way "down" on just because of how the price has moved like $200 closer to the strike.

In general IVs stay high and then drop immediately after earnings or a few days after, depending on what earnings was. It's hard to say how much they will increase or decrease on the way to earnings. But I'm a noob so I could be wrong. There might be a rule of thumb, but NVDAs rule of thumb is it doesn't follow any of that anyway.
