These statues (Officially called "Statues of Peace") are typically placed in other countries, sometimes outside the Japanese embassy. The first statue was placed in Seoul, across from the embassy, and has caused *massive* diplomatic issues, but the South Korean Government have so far refused to move them.

These statues are typically a young woman in a *hanbok* with an empty chair beside her.

There are other statues [Like this one in San Francisco](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_Comfort_Women_Memorial) and its placement caused issues with Japan.

They are intended to represent all violence against women, not just the comfort women, and they are often covered in hand-knitted clothing, such as hats and scarves, in cold weather.

During COVID-19, the one in my city always had a mask (but so did most statues tbh...)
