It’s not John Madden. It is another person entirely, but EA wanted the players to get the whole NFL experience with a voice they would interpret as John Madden.

That’s infringement on the rights of John Madden and the NFL.

This also happens in music and movie making all the time.

The makers of Ghostbusters assembled an edit of the film using a Huey Lewis song as a temporary track, hoping that they’d be able to license Huey’s music or have him write a new song for the film.

In the end he was completely booked and couldn’t take the job.

So, the filmmakers hired Ray Parker, Jr. to write a song for that section of the film that was like the Huey Lewis track.

He wrote the Ghostbusters song. Then the film company and song writers were sued by Huey Lewis because it sounded almost exactly like the song they used in the edit.

They settled out of court, and I don’t believe Ray Parker Jr receives any royalty for the song.
