Sorry if I came off as aggressive. I was being sincere when I said I was happy for him.

I absolutely agree remission is a huge thing to celebrate. But it’s still not a cure. It’s winning the round, not the fight.

People make enormous lifestyle changes after surviving cancer. The treatment can be almost as bad as the disease. And it’s still not a “cure”. Im guessing most people know someone who has had cancer and they hopefully survived it. But it’s never completely in your rear view mirror for a lot of them.

I absolutely didn’t mean to attack anyone for surviving cancer. But remission can be a vastly different experience for different people and I don’t think it should be talked about flippantly. It can be 7 years of not a single peep. It can also be followed by constant chemo, radio therapy, surgery. Then remission. Then more fighting. Again and again. And just because you beat it once or twice or however many times doesn’t mean it won’t get you the next. Sometimes the cancer just decides it won’t respond to treatment.

The intended target of my anger was at cancer. Fuck cancer with the biggest fuck stick.
