Based on my own limited knowledge if it were me I would open up a Fidelity account and either park it in their money market SPAXX for 5% or get a bunch of CDs. With Fidelity you could get a varying number of CDs from different banks, and as long as each bank is under the FDIC limit all the cash is protected. So you could put 250k in Wells Fargo CDs, 250k in some random bank in Minnesota's CDs, etc. Last I checked they were returning around 5.3%.
