Birth rates are also getting lower in my country. Many people mentioned very valid reasons for having fewer (or zero) children. I just want to add as a relatively new parent one more thing: "There are no villages anymore". Raising children should not be only a 2 persons' job, it is beyond exhausting to care for your baby/toddler and keep the house clean while also working and cooking etc. it is also beneficial for toddlers and children to socialize with uncles/aunt's/grandma's and be introduced to more hobbies than just their parents' (who probably have no time for any hobbies anyway). Everyone lives far far away and gasoline is expensive and traffic is ridiculous so even if relatives wanted to help, it is highly inconvenient in this day and age
