I think there's a lot more information about what parenting is actually like, and lots of people see it as negatives outweighing the positives. Back in the 1950s you'd get married at 20 and immediately have children, you didn't have the time to think about whether you even wanted them. Even if you decided kids aren't for you, you'd probably be 25 with 3 children by that point.

Nowadays when we delay it into a person's 30s a lot of people have decided that it's not for them, and they'd rather just enjoy the benefits of not having to take care of and raise children.
