Mmm a lot to respond to here.
I don’t think us aid being stopped for 6 months was part of the master plan of the west. I don’t think the republican house refusing to put it to a vote was a part of the strategy. I don’t think Ukraine running out of artillery shells was part of the plan.
I think the us/west/nato isn’t as united in their goals as you are displaying. Easiest example is if trump wins the election there will be no more us aid. Then Ukraine definitely loses.
The Russians have more people than Ukraine a bigger economy also they are a dictatorship instead of democracy and have a military culture of throwing their troops into the meat grinder. I think the real worry is Ukraine running out of troops and equipment. Eventually the soldiers will give up. Ukrainian soldier can give up without being shot in the back unlike Russian ones.
I think America could easily help Ukraine win the war if it was willing to pay a lot of money and get involved directly. To retake territory Ukraine would need air superiority over Russian which America could do but we would need to run seed operations with stealth fighter jets which is very expensive. Gaining air superiority over the second or third largest Air Force in the world (depending on how much of chinas self reported capability you believe they have) is a lot more expensive than I think your giving it credit for.
However I don’t think America is willing to pony up. After the end of the uni-polar moment after the Soviet Union fell the IR theory of liberalism has been declining. America is becoming more isolationist and less willing to spend big on the types of military action it has done in the past. Also the pocketbook is hurting. Spending 20 billion a day as you mentioned earlier hurt the purse strings.
I want to think Ukraine will win but I think they won’t be able to retake any territory. Russians got more of everything that matters in a war, soldier, artillery rounds, planes, tanks ext. The west seems unwilling to provide troops or enough equipment so that Ukraine could have an advantage in one of those areas. Ukraines advantages are defenders advantage and the general incompetence of the Russian army.
