First of all it is time to rationalize expectations given what OpenAI has recently delivered and that previously its CEO Sam Altman published series of tweets like he was on repeated three day binge of Adderall especially the one regarding assertion that thermonuclear power will soon resolve the AI demand for electricity. The thing is that thermonuclear fusion process is known for over half a century and while within about just two decades since the discovery of the process the uncontrollable fusion was harnessed and yielded thermonuclear weapons it has been not the case so far with controlled fusion. And fusion is one of the greatest possible inventions except for AGI and shortly after inevitable ASI.
Assuming AGI is possible or possible within our computational capacity in the next 10 years. We will see if on-demand cloud supercomputers like the one Microsoft plans to build will lead to some breakthroughs. In theory computational power needed to run chatGPT was easily available 5 years ago shortly after the crucial piece of scientific puzzle behind it was discovered. Coincidently Google published a demo in 2018 of its breakthrough voice assistent and it was amazing you can check for yourself.

Yet Google is not the AI leader likely because of the issue of profit generation and lack of vision by higher management.
Such situation happens all the time in tech companies just remember that Xerox invented mouse, window GUI and object oriented programming language but it was Apple and Microsoft who mostly benefitted from these inventions.
Anyway current LLMs are great and are here to stay even if AI will be another bubble because AI is a hot topic in science and China has been investing in AI research astonishing financial resources supposedly because AI is going to be one of four pillars that will transform chinese economy and science into greatest in the world.
All over the world companies have invested in AI a lot of money not even mentioning american tech unicorns like Amazon, Microsoft, Google or Apple. The thing is that these companies will abruptly stop funding AI products if they don't deliver profit within very few years just like recently Google layed off entire project teams responsible for development of programming tools and languages like Rust, Dart and Flutter.
