I feel like you don't know much about the AI currently.

Autonomous systems are literally created by putting in some objective function and letting the system figure out on its own how to achieve this.

This is the whole crux of the technology. It doesn't need to be human, or any of that. It will just pursue whatever objective function is given to it.

The whole field of AI safety is dealing with this problem. No matter what function you end up giving it, there will always be some sort of monkey's paw situation that you didn't think of, leading to chaos or danger.

So they have tried intrinsic motivation rather than extrinsic (objective function) to try and solve this. Basically, give it a vague function so it won't hyper fixate one one thing.

Problem with that is still the same issue.

This problem has been ongoing since the early days of machine learning and currently there is no solution to this problem.

The biggest problem comes once a machine is much more capable such that instead of figuring out how to solve a video game or chess, etc, its trying to improve itself or do something more dangerous. Note that it doesn't need to be intelligent to do this, it just needs the right (wrong??) motivation.

A simple AI that is tasked with "keep the floors clean" as an example will lead to it polishing the entirety of the earth down to a singular flat smooth plane, if it could actually achieve that.
