I look at market activity regularly but daily activity doesn’t trigger investment decisions, if that makes sense. I started back in the day (‘90s) with a portfolio of individual stocks and over time I could see the market move between defensive and bullish positions just within my little portfolio. Some days when the market was jittery money would flow into the boring defensive stocks I had and on big tech bull run days the defensive stocks would drop and tech inflate, etc.

Not a big lesson here other than the price of individual securities isn’t solely based on company performance at a given moment. Money is shifting across the market and we are along for the ride as individuals. I see posts here occasionally like, “Why did X go down if Y positive news just happened?” There are broader forces at work your individual research won’t be able to shed light on.

So everybody has to get comfy with their risk tolerance knowing how little control we have over outcomes. But to the original question, if I look daily at performance it’s more of an attempt to see what the market is up to that day and not a focused evaluation of any particular position - caveat being some impactful news that changes your outlook on something dramatically.
