When I read the above article, I was totally taken aback that India has got 35 Trillion personal loans in debt and 1529 billion credit card loans?

On looking at it a little deeper, one can understand the mischievous way the article has been written. 35 Trillion in Rupees is just 42,443.80 crores USD. This is a trifling figure when you compare the credit card loans of US.

US has got 887 billion USD as credit card loans alone ie credit card loans in US is more than double than that of all personal loans taken by all of India including housing loans. Remember, population of US is just one fourth that of India.

... And some idiot has written an essay in a national magazine that loans outstanding for Indians is alarming.. In fact, it is the other way around. Banks are trying to give more loans as loans are not being availed by Indians as it is done by western countries.
