IMHO most people do not need some finacial planner , they do earn their worth if you have a high net worth and need tax planning or estate planning or if you have a more complex tax situation like you own your business

If you just have a normal W-2 job and want to invest for retirment or something its not hard to follow the bogleheads method and just invest in a target date fund or a simple 3 fund portfolio
