Imagine that we have stable population, and forget infant mortality and incels :), assume we have equal number of each sex, and every woman will get married and have two kids. Also assume each kids is a dependent for 20 years, and each old person too. For each couple, you have 4 dependents (two kids, and one parent from each, assuming they're sharing burden with one other sibling), or 2 dependents per person (not their whole life, just for 20 years each dependent).

If each woman has only 1 kid (and we get to a stable state), then each couple would have 5 dependents instead of 4 (4 parents, and 1 kid) ... doesn't seem insurmountable to me (and we can adjust things).
