On more than one occasion, Musk suggested that human trials were imminent at Neuralink. As a recent [article](https://www.reuters.com/legal/transactional/neuralink-co-founder-departs-musk-backed-startup-sources-2022-07-19/) reports, a rival startup (Synchron) -- established the same year as Neuralink -- implanted their first human subject this month. As the article notes:
> Meanwhile, Neuralink has yet to receive FDA approval, though Musk has predicted the could company could begin human trials as early as 2020. Most recently, he said in 2021 that the company planned to start implanting its computer chip in humans by 2022.
It is also notable that Neuralink cofounder invested in Synchron after leaving Neuralink.
