I've got considerable sympathy for those who graduated between 2020-2022 in particular. Many students missed out on upper level seminars, volunteer work, lab work, field schools, conference attendance and presentations/posters, and internships, leaving big gaps in their resumes. By being virtual for their junior and senior years, many failed to actually get to know their professors well enough for a reference or recommendation.

These are the kinds of things recent graduates use to get past the "1 year applicable experience" requirements in entry level lab and field tech jobs. But so many grads just have coursework and nothing else.
