There are 4 general types, though they often overlap, which is why I really don't like these ambiguous terms:
- Cold, hardware wallet - Hot, hardware wallet - Cold, software wallet - Hot, software wallet
Cold/Hot just refers to whether the account interacts with dApps and other addresses that you don't own. If you have an address that only transfers to your own whitelisted hot addresses, it's a cold wallet.
Coinbase Wallet is just a non-custodial software wallet. It can be cold or hot, and its seed can be stored in software or on hardware. (Context matters when using these terms)
I highly recommend you own multiple accounts generated using different seeds. Keep the bulk of your assets in the cold wallet and only move what you are willing to risk on your hot wallet. If you interact with sketchy dapps, spin up a separate "degen" wallet only for that purpose. I even use separate browsers and themes for each of my wallets to reduce the chance of accidental mistakes.
Keep separate wallets and build good habits.
