"text": "It depends. I could see Machar getting support from Sudan, like he did in the 1990s. But I doubt anyone is going to put troops in. \n\nMost of the oil that north Sudan relied on before independence is located in South Sudan, and there have been huge disagreements about oil since independence. North Sudan has all the pipelines that allow export, but South Sudan has all the oil. There have been extreme tensions over money, with north Sudan charging ridiculous transportation fees. South Sudan subsequently cut off the flow and has started building a pipeline to Kenya, which has ended north Sudan's primary source of funds.\n\nThere are also huge territorial tensions, as several provinces in north Sudan want to join the south. War has continued there between the north Sudanese government and elements of the local SPLA faction (called the SPLA-North). \n\nBetween these massive tensions since South Sudan's independence, north Sudan has huge incentives to help destabilize South Sudan by backing certain factions, much as they did during the 1990s by backing different factions of the SPLA to split and weaken the rebel movement.
